Review of King Tomb by Scarlett Dawn

A Darker Side to Our Beloved Prodigies…

Synopsis:

Queen Shifter, Lily Ruckler, has found solace in brutal warfare. Her bloodied fists and bared fangs fill the holes left in her memory, the blank spaces that leave her soul aching and empty. Her only pleasure is in blood; her only salvation is the relationship she has with her infant child, the baby of unknown origins who brings her solace and stability.

When Elder Harcourt summons Lily and her protector Antonio back to the United States, Lily thinks nothing unusual about the change of location. But a standard reconnaissance mission leaves her trapped inside King Zeller's private quarters, and at his mercy. Surprise attraction rapidly turns to a battle of wills and an intense power struggle that leaves no clear victor but plenty of resentment.
They are not allowed to nurse their wounds. In order to win the war against the Commoners, the King Vampire and Queen Shifter must work together. It should be easy. The war is turning, the battle is deadly, and both Lily and Ezra love the cold cleanliness of combat.

But their chance meeting has led to more than an unlikely alliance. Secrets have a way of surfacing, especially on a torn-up battlefield, and Lily and Ezra are about to re-learn all they cannot remember. If they can't control their emotions and responses, it will be to their own ruin and the destruction of everything around them.

My review: 5 Stars!

I was so excited to review King Tomb. I, like many other fans, have been impatiently awaiting the third installment in the Forever Evermore series.

I absolutely love Scarlett Dawn’s writing style. I’d probably pay to read her grocery list if she’d let me. Her words always flow so well I get lost in them. King Tomb really showcases her talent as a writer and her fantastic story telling ability.

King Tomb starts directly where King Cave leaves off at that crazy good cliff-hanger. This book is mostly concentrated on Lily and Ezra trying to cope and their journey after the mind wipe, the terrible things that happened in book 2, and being King and Queen during a war. I connected so much with Lily in this book because her emotions were so raw, and real. Anger, confusion, sadness, and bitterness. I felt it all with her. I even rejoiced when she got to exact her revenge for some previous wrongdoings. I'm pretty certain that Ms. Dawn could make me fall in love with a rock if she wanted. Her writing is that good.

King Tomb has a LOT of surprises and is quite a bit darker than the other two books, but I think it was completely necessary (and awesome). With all the obstacles and heartaches Lily, Ezra, Pearl, and Jack have faced in the previous installments I can’t see them not changing, and getting a little harder and more fierce. These are not the prodigies we knew in King Hall and King Cave, but I love them just the same. It was also nice to see so much action. Lily and Ezra are total bad-asses in this book and I LOVED watching them excel at ruling their people.

Scarlett’s characters have evolved so flawlessly and effortlessly throughout this series. They have grown up so much and I have never loved a group of characters like I do the Kings and Queens of the Mys community. I honestly don’t know what I’ll do once the series is over.

A few teasers I made! <3

Oh, how I missed Ezra. *swoon*

 Ohhh, yeah....

*Sighhhh*

Just a small sample of her amazing writing. <3

Dahlia Donovan

Blurb:

Undercover Interpol agent Natasha Itsov is the ice queen of the European shifter world. Her reputation for loving and leaving without a second thought is well known. Until she met Darren Martel, another fox shifter. She broke both of their hearts when she ran from the bond forming between them.

Is it ever too late for love?

Natasha is the second book of the Blackbird series by Dahlia Donovan. Book one, Ivy, is currently for sale on Amazon, Nook & Smashwords.

Short Excerpt

“Get in here, girl.” Marin Petrov pounded on his desk. Natasha heard it echo all the way in her own office. Jolting from the forms she had been filling out for his next business trip, Natasha slid her feet into her black stilettos and quickly made her way from her office into his. The absurdity of one of the worst human traffickers in Europe having an office fit for a lawyer never ceased to strike her as disturbingly or perhaps disgustingly normal. She kept her expression blank and bored when she stepped in front of him.
His gaze drifted, as it always did, from her pointed heels along her stockings to her leather skirt and white buttoned blouse. Natasha raised an eyebrow at him. She never let him intimidate her. It was why he’d kept her alive when most of his secretaries met untimely accidents when their noses strayed too far into his business.
“We’re moving to Kiev.” Petrov tossed a stack of papers in her direction. She crouched down to retrieve them, careful not to give him the view he wanted. “Get it organised. Now.”
Natasha nodded politely and exited the office as quickly as she had entered it. Her disgust for the man was difficult to mask at times. Of all the undercover assignments Natasha Itsov had taken for Interpol, she thought working with the Auctioneer might possibly be the worst. She glanced briefly down at the documents in her hands and froze when a familiar name caught her attention.
Blackbird Security Firm.
The last time Natasha had dealt with Blackbird there had been complications. Major complications. She wondered briefly about the broken-hearted man she had left behind. Poor Darren. A smile briefly flashed across her face. It lit up her icy blue eyes. Her full lips slowly dropped down into a frown though as she considered the implications of Petrov’s interest in the security firm.
She had met Darren Martel when they worked on a joint-task force many years ago on a human trafficking case for the International Criminal Court. Their affair had been brief but fiery. She could still picture every inch of his freckled skin in her mind and had frequent dreams about tying him to her bed.
Oh, sweet Darren.
Why would Petrov be interested in Blackbird? It was a question still plaguing Natasha several days later while setting up the office in Kiev. She heard rumours of a new girl Petrov had gone to Moldova to grab. Her Interpol handler told her they’d almost captured him there. They grabbed another slimy bastard instead, Valentin Krupin. Steven Samuels and Gareth Richardson from Blackbird had contacted them with the info but the wolves were gone with the girl before they arrived.
Her fingers itched to pick up her telephone, but it was too risky for direct contact. Petrov would kill her if he found out, and Interpol wouldn’t be pleased with her either if she ruined years of undercover work. Natasha finally decided to create a dummy e-mail account. She used old codes Darren would remember to let him know where she was, what she was doing and warn him about the Auctioneer.
Her krasnij lis.
Her red fox.

Review of Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

So I feel like I've been under a rock or something. How have I never heard of or read these books before?? I go to stalk Jennifer L. Armentrout's Facebook page and she already has like 66k likes! Wth have I been doing? (Probably reading) On a happy note I'm now obsessed and I have FOUR more books to read! Woohoo!!! Any who here's my review from Goodreads and some buy links for your laziness pleasures. I have a series to finish! <3

Review: ★☆★☆★

I absolutely LOVED this book! It pulled me in from the beginning and it had me wholly consumed until the end. Katy is a very likeable and relatable character for me. Dee is the kind of best friend girls die for and the back and forth chemistry between Daemon and Katy is HOT! Did I mention Daemon? Swoon!

The storyline is excellent and original. It's finally something I haven't read about before! The coolest take on aliens I've heard in a long time! Ms.Armentrout's writing is impeccable and flows really well. She really makes you fall in love with these characters and their stories which is a must. I feel like quite an array of people could like this book. It touches on a few different genres. It's a YA, Paranormal, Romance, Sci-Fi mash-up.

I can definitely say I have found a new author to stalk. :)

Review for Fall (Cold Mark Book 1) by Scarlett Dawn

Fall (Cold Mark Book 1) is a NA Sci-Fi by Scarlett Dawn

Amazon Book Description:

A savagely wicked new adult sci-fi serial blasts off with Fall, the first installment in The Cold Mark Saga...
Only one thousand Humans survived The Travel from the shattered Earth. Some Humans say it was their penance for crushing such beauty. Eighteen-year-old Braita merely thought it was pathetic - pathetic that her people had been that blind.

Now, the Humans live in the solar system, Kline, where three planets are habitable. Joyal, the smallest planet, is embraced by the Humans - their family to love as they had never loved Earth. Though a planet covered mainly in water is dangerous real estate to dwell upon.

Their worry turns into devastating reality when Braita's blessed village is struck by a tsunami. Population numbers must be kept to a minimum. Drastic measures must be taken. Braita's life is twisted in brutality when she is chosen as one of the three hundred Humans to be removed from Joyal...and sent to the Mian, the aliens to fear, on the planet Triaz.

Thrown head first into a barbaric world she knows nothing of, Braita must adapt to a dark life as a slave of the Mian society. Her existence depends on it...and possibly, the fall of her heart.

 My Review-
Wow! What an ending!

I'm absolutely in love with the Forever Evermore series so I didn't hesitate in buying Fall. I don't think Ms.Dawn is even capable of writing a bad book, not to mention it's only $.99. SCORE! If you hadn't noticed this is a novella so it's pretty short. It took me about 2 hours to read.

Holy. Hell. Scarlett.
This book was awesome. I loved getting to read another genre from Scarlett Dawn. She kicks ass at Paranormal/Fantasy so I figured I wouldn't be disappointed. I wasn't. Braita is a human in a broken world. She gets sent on a journey with her best friend Jax and many other humans to 2 other planets in order to save their race. I loved being inside Braita's head during this. Ms.Dawn is an amazing story teller and a true artist of descriptions. I had no trouble feeling like I was right there with the characters and experiencing their emotions with them.

Did I mention that Braita is a total badass? Small preview -->
"I launched one of my blades right at his throat, and then raced straight for him. I had the blade back in my hand even before he hit the ground, gurgling on his own blood."-Fall, Scarlett Dawn
Now THAT is a strong female lead! Take note y'all!

I do agree with some of the other reviews that it was lacking a little in humor, which was par for her Forever Evermore series, but I think humor would have been misplaced in this story. This book was pretty heartbreaking and terrifying for the main characters, and I think that the feel of it was perfect in relation to the context. It's a different book and a different world where we don't completely know the characters and their stories yet. I can only imagine it will get better with the next installment and I'll be first in line to buy that book also.

Bravo again, Scarlett! Another 5 star read for me.
